Ilaiyankudi

Jaina statue

The Hindu temple dedicated to Śiva in Ilaiyankudi has a statue of a Jina sitting in a pavilion displayed close to its entrance. This seems to indicate the annexation of a Jaina temple or at least of a Jaina statue in the past. Today, Śaivas entering the temple honour the converted statue as they do with the neighbouring image of Gaṇeśa.
