Hampi (Vijayanagara)

Pārśvanātha Temple

Although they themselves were mainly Hindus, the Vijayanagara rulers supported the construction of Jaina temples at Vijayanagara (Hampi), as may be seen in the large Pārśvanātha Basti (1426 CE). In this temple, three elements project from the front hall (maṇḍapa). There are porches to the front and to the east, and a small shrine which juts out of the hall to the west. These days, the side chapel as well as the main sanctum of the temple contain only empty image platforms.
