Photographic exhibition of the head-anointing ceremony of the Digambara Jainas

The Emmy Noether Research Group on Jainism in Karnataka conducted joint fieldwork in Shravanabelgola for the rare Mahamastakabisheka (head-anointing) ceremony of the colossal Bahubali statue which takes place about every twelve years. Photographs and explanatory texts from the ceremony will be displayed in the South Asia Institute (SAI) of the University of Heidelberg in June.

by Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels, Head of the Department of Classical Indology and Speaker of the SFB Ritual Dynamics
followed by dipam ceremony and a reception
