City Basti
The City Basti at Mysore, alternatively known as the Śrī Śānteśvara Svāmī Digambara Jaina Basti, is a modern construction. An unusual feature of the Mysore temple is that the image chamber (garbha-gr̥ha) is flanked by multi-layered shelves, displaying a vast number of metal images on three levels. On the outside, the City Basti has a properly constructed staircase, leading up onto the flat roof of the temple. While no upper shrine is yet available, all the prerequisites for the integration of an image into the existing temple tower, as well as the possibility of constructing a larger shrine on this raised storey, are already in place.
