Valathy
Mahāvīra Temple complex
The outer compound wall of the Mahāvīra Temple complex in Valathy has a gopura gateway. Whilst Hindu temples throughout the south are commonly associated with this form of gateway structure from at least the Coḷa period onwards, gopura gateways in a Jaina temple context in Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa are relatively rare. Most Jaina temples which have gateways in gopura shape are located in Tamil Nadu.
